Origin of Clarinet Sauvignon Blanc
There are some men you meet in life, and you can't just help but admire them for their authenticity, poise and a remarkable knack for making exceptional wines - and he is certainly one of them. On a very cold winter evening, 19th July 2019, he graciously hosted my mates and me for a braai at his winery in the countryside of the Western Cape. That night, I knew that I would one day produce Clarinet Sauvignon Blanc with him. We share a deep love for wine, storytelling and music.
I later returned to do a harvest at his wine farm, and again in March 2020 - just before the first COVID-19 lockdown - I joined another harvest at his other winery in Cape Agulhas. There, we crushed, pressed and fermented the Sauvignon Blanc fruit that would eventually become the fruit for Clarinet Sauvignon Blanc.
